Shitty Internet!

Before moving into my current apartment, I did the usual thing by asking the landlady about everything including the internet connection that would serve as my gateway to the online world for at least six months to come. She said it’s a high speed connection running at an impressive 18mbps and shared by all the tenants here. I thought wow that was bloody wicked. So I wasted no time in committing myself to a binding 6 month rent contract before moving all the shit from my old place in.

It was a massive mistake. Before long, I found out that the actual connection speed I achieve is far from what she has claimed. And it’s not a single 18mbps broadband line that she promised. In fact, they have nine 2mbps connections here so, mathematically speaking, she was bloody right i.e. 9 broadband lines x 2mbps = 18mbps :D

Well, that wouldn’t bother me too much if it wasn’t for the very fact that they limit everyone’s connection speed at a mere 512kbs each. Fucking bollocks man, my old place was smaller and twisted leccy and water bills  , but at least their 6mbps connection always operated at the full speed and rarely failed to deliver.

To add to the misery, you can only go online via their wireless network which, to be brutally honest, is totally shitty. I’m never able to stay online longer than half an hour and often get disconnected every 10-15 minutes. Yes, it is that unreliable. I’ve had a word with the management a couple of times but it looks like they simply couldn’t care much less. This is clearly demonstrated by their failure to hire an engineer or anyone qualified to provide assistance if and when needed. Instead, they employ their own teenage son as the network admin and sure enough he ain’t got a clue about anything. Not a bloody clue!

The contract expires at the end of September and without a shadow of the tiniest doubt, I’m going to fuck off somewhere before they even bother asking!

What about you? Are you happy with your rented accommodation here in Bangkok? Are they taking you for a ride too? Or have you been let down by anything? Please share your story with the rest of us here, cheers!
