Religion and Thai People

Everyone knows Thailand is a renowned Buddhist country, and rightly so in its own right. The vast majority of the population - about 95% - are in fact Buddhists. The rest are made up of Muslims, Christians, Hindus and a few other minor faiths.

There’s one thing I find rather peculiar about religous people in Thailand though; they’re multi-faith believers, practising their multiple faiths without a shred of awkwardness! Take my mum for example, she’s a converted Buddhist having been brought up a Catholic, but she also believes in the Hindu Trinity - Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. And she’s not the only one doing this; there’s millions of people in Thailand doing exactly the same thing and it seems to be an accepted social norm too.
So in a way, it looks like many Thais believe all religions are of equal worth and should be embraced all together despite the very fact that they are far from compatible and even tend to contradict each other. This is where I think people fail to see the logic behind their convictions if you know what I mean.
What about you? Are you religious? If so, are you a multi-faith believer too and why? Does it make you feel more secure to have many Gods, rather than one, watching you over? Please share your thoughts. Thanks!
