Peter Reid to Manage Thailand

Posted in Sport

Today while working on a project at work, I stumbled upon a news story that Peter Reid who used to manage Sunderland and Man City is to be named as the new manager of Thailand.

He is to replace the old manager who resigned after failing to take Thailand to the 2010 World Cup (again). I really doubt if Reid can do much because in all honesty he ain’t that good a football manager and our national team are just shit. And Asia’s quota is only 4 teams and with Japan, South Korea, Australia (now part of the continent) and those Arabs in the Middle East all so bloody competitive relative to us, our chances are always slim.

I think the only way we can qualify for the World Cup is to host it but again that’s not a possibility either. That said, I reckon it would be real wicked for everyone to see Thailand competing at the World Cup given how popular football is in this country. Everybody would go barking bonkers I’m sure of that.

Anyway Reid did say he had turned down a job offer from the Iranian FA for personal reasons but didn’t hesitate to accept the Thai offer because it interested him. It makes no footballing sense if you ask me. Iran are a better side having qualified for the World Cup a few times and their FA must have offered him a reasonably good amount of money too. But perhaps there is ’something’ about Bangkok and Thailand in general that really does interest him and that one thing might also be what attracts so many tourirsts his age to Thailand. What do you think it is? :D
