Karafun After Hours Club
Last weekend was a heavy one. We started off in Flix for a beer before moving on to Baroque. After the closing hours, we went on a mission to check out this new ‘Karafun’ after hours club. It’s located right behind Bangkok’s biggest gentlemen’s club Caribbean. I don’t remember what time we got there but we did stay till half six in the morning. It was great fun and here’s my review:
The club: It might be a bit difficult to locate Karafun yourself so my best advice is to tell the cab driver you want to go to Caribbean in Yaek Meng Jaai (แยกเหม่งจ๋าย) near Huay Kwang road. Just follow the crowd upon your arrival and you will find it. Outside it’s quite dark but as you walk further through the big glass door you will see loads of people queuing up near the main entrance. Inside it’s a massive, massive hall with plenty of dance floor able to house hundreds of all night ravers.
The music: bloody wicked, current trance and house tunes played by a couple of familiar looking DJs from Baroque but the music here is even more vibrant and incredibly banging. It is so good that you won’t notice how long you have been in there for.
The crowd: as it’s located right next to Caribbean and run by the same management as the famous hostess bar, you will most likely bump into quite a few of these hotties who come here to socialise and enjoy themselves after work. The ravers here are also rather laid back. In fact they seem to have a plethora of fun and you can make friends with them witout too much difficulty. One of my farang mates was well pissed and he ended up going home with a milf! And for no apparent reason, a lot of people in here love wearing very dark sunglasses and can’t seem able to stop dancing so if anyone has a theory to explain this, please let me know!
The price: very, very expensive if I must say. At weekends, it’s 500 baht to get in but you get two beers for it. After that, it’s 300 baht for a small beer. Yeah, that’s £5/$10 a beer and you can’t say it’s cheap even by Western standards! If you want a bottle of whiskey, a black label alone costs 2,000 baht and you can bring 5 people in. If you are lucky and happen to know a girl who works in Caribbean next door, she can probably get you in for free so try your best and make as many friends as you possibly can!
Sorry I haven’t got proper pics for this new place. Have two from the club’s website and while they are not proper ones i.e. they’re taken when the hall is still used as a mere restaurant/karaoke bar, you should still get a rough idea of what it might look like during peak periods i.e. 2am-6am. Just picture the place with nice light works, laser beams, a lot fewer chairs, no couch, more dancing space and lots and lots of ravers.

If I do return to Karafun again which I’m pretty sure I will, I will try and take good pictures to do it a bit more justice so do stay stuned. I share the view of many that it’s now probably one of the best after hours clubs in Bangkok. So the next time, you’re out and don’t just want your night out to end too easily and early, you know where Karafun is!

Hi Tom,
Thanks a lot for opening the new After Hours Category! I am very curious what we will see here in the future. In fact I have been to only two after hour clubs in BKK yet - Boss and Spice Club. Both are no real recommendations. Girls are mostly freelancers that want to hook up with Tourists. Boss was way too crowded. Spice Club in Ambassador was ok - they had a good live performance.
I made you a list of after hour clubs I have found info on the net but have never been to - there might be one or two you want to check out. But I can’t guarantee they are still all open.
Tunnel Nightclub, Lang Suan Soi 5 - must be really worth checking out - many comments saying it was the best after hour club in BKK.
Renovate - almost across from the Poseidon Massage Parlor - Cheap covers, bottle service, hip-hop and open late.
Rammed with girls and is known to attract some of the local massage and member club girls after work.
Spicy on Rong Mueang Soi 1 - freelancer disco like Boss and Spice Club - some say it is ok on weekdays
Lucky off Phetchaburi - no real recommendation (small freelancer disco), but I heard it closes post-sunrise and almost never gets shut down. Might be good for after-after-hour
MTV Club - not really after hour club, but open 10 till at least 3.30. It is located across from Ramkhamheang University (RU). Take a taxi to Ramkhamheang Road and tell them to turn right on Soi 24. About 200 meters down the road you will see the MTV club sign on your right side. Why in the world would you want to visit a hole in the wall joint located about 18kms outside the city?First, a bottle of whiskey with mixers will cost you 500 baht. Second, it is rammed with RU uni girls.
Maybe you already know these places. Whatever, its just info I found on the net so please dont blame me if things turn out to be different from my description - you might want to do a search on google or ask some people before you really check a place out.

Info on the net is usually out of date for bkk. Tunnel has closed, spicy is still open, MTV is still open but utter shit.

We hit karafun last night. buying a bottle is the way to go. I do not think this is the carib management but the karaoke company. I think they are separate since the carib people cannot do anything for u at karafun.
this place is kicking but somewhat pricey although ordering a bottle is the only way. Hard to pick up though given the mostly thai crowd, table layout and the looks from people. the carib girls you may have been all over at the club seems to try and ignore you at karafun but this is just the first night.
the music is awesome is though and the crowd is partying hard and late
will be back for sure.

“Hard to pick up though given the mostly thai crowd, table layout and the looks from people”
how old are you?

jon - I am 85 but stay in good shape
I did not say impossible but you do have to watch yourself when u go to the mostly thai places as a group of farang.
we were all dressed nice and had just come out of carib. table next to us was 5 girls. after approaching then and chatting but then returning to our table we were getting quite the looks from the other table which was a bunch of young thai guys
only pointing out that people should know the difference when being in farang pick up joints versus thai ones
renovate had a similar vibe.
this place is cool and we will be back to finish our bottle.
