Like most young people in Bangkok, I enjoy going out for a beer or two after a long week at work. There’s one major problem that I’ve encountered though; it usually spirals out of control and ends up costing me more than what my nightly budget allows. And there’s a reason for this: a pub crawl

A pub crawl is good fun for the obvious reason but I have learnt that it is way too expensive for my own liking. A nightclub crawl is even worse especially when you go to many clubs in different locations. Cab fares, beers and waiting staff tips all add to a serious amount of money. This is twice as bad if you visit bars with a ‘nice view’ and have a takeaway. And if you go out more than once a week, you’ll have to dig your pocket even deeper!

But I reckon I’ve found a way round this though. And it is so bloody simple: stay in one club and one club only throughout the night and have a bottle of whiskey to share with your mates. It is easy but yet effective in keeping your nightly outgoings under control. You order a bottle of whiskey with a couple of mixers, drink the night away and the bill should not exceed 2,500 baht inclusive of waiting staff tips and shit. It can then be comfortably split between 4-5 people. And this is in the higher end area of Ekamai/Thonglor. Imagine how cheap it is in places like RCA and Ratchada soi4 !

Now you see it’s more than possible to go out and have loads of fun in Bangkok without breaking the bank. I think I’ll probably carry on this way for a long time to come. After all this is precisely what most Bangkok clubbers including all my Thai mates always do. For me, it’s just great being able to enjoy and save myself a few quid every time I go out.
